6th Reading and Writing

Welcome to the Reading and Writing website.  

​During the course of the year we will cover the district's student learning objectives.  Please click the link and view pages 45-51.  The revised Alaska state standards are here.

The students will explore a variety of writing strategies on a daily basis, including structured and creative writing.

Reading will be addressed through a variety of fun and engaging activities including whole class, small group, and individual opportunities.

Reading

We will finish reading and discussing Agatha Christie’s most famous murder mystery novel, And Then There Were None.  Please do NOT allow your child to read the novel at home or look up who is the murderer.  There will be an open notes test on Friday and the students need to submit their novel packets on Friday.

Here is a list of the 1200 most common High frequency words.  These words encompass over 89% of everyday writing.  

Here is a list of 5000 words used on the SAT (intended for "challenge" spelling activities).
