Welcome to the Reading and Writing website.
During the course of the year we will cover the district's
student learning objectives.

Here are the third grade state standards for English-Language Arts.
The students will explore a variety of writing strategies on a daily basis, including structured and creative writing.
Reading will be addressed through a variety of fun and engaging activities including whole class, small group, and individual opportunities.

Current Topic
We will cover
Journeys
lesson 18 and read and discuss the story “A Tree is Growing.” We’re learning about word roots.
The students will finish writing their Missouri pen pal letters and create pictures of Alaskan activities

Please read every day for, at least, 20 minutes. Write down what you read using the
Weekly Reading Log
. The log is due on Friday. Discuss what you read with your parents/guardians.
The students should
consistently take AR quizzes on the computer
after they finish reading books. They earn prizes for earning AR points.
Current Project
The students are writing letters to their pen pals in Missouri.

Here is a list of the 1200 most common High frequency words.
These words encompass over 89% of everyday writing.
