Congratulations to Grail for winning the UAF Innovation Competition for his invention, the Siping Sleeve. This wire-mesh tire sleeve improves traction at a fraction of the cost of winter tires. Great job Grail! Our reward field trip to UAF is on Wednesday, May 8th. Students with exemplary behavior are invited to attend. Mr. Kinder will contact parents if a student isn’t eligible to attend. We will bike to UAF and ice skate. Helmets are required. We will tour the campus on our bikes. The students will need to bring a sack lunch and a water bottle. The field trip will last the entire school day.
To renew my National Board Certification of Teaching I need to teach 5th graders, since my endorsement is with 11- to 14-year-old students. This week I will teach Mrs. Thompson’s class from 2:40 to 3:40 PM. Mrs. Thompson will teach our class at the same time. If your child still hasn’t memorized all the multiplication facts, please help him or her study every day. We are using multiplication daily in math and the handful of kids who don’t know their facts are really struggling. Please be informed of how the persistent lack of funding for education is impacting our district. We are looking at increasing all class sizes by five students next year (30 elementary students per class), closing multiple schools, and making massive cuts across the district. Please contact your legislators and the governor to advocate for education. Thank you. Please encourage your child to complete one i-Ready lesson every school day. The lessons are personalized, based on your child’s current needs. You must use Google Chrome to access the district’s applications. Math tutorial is available every Thursday, before school, 8:30 to 9:15 AM. Parents are always welcome to bring home any of their children’s school materials (e.g. writing journals and spelling quizzes) to review and help their children correct their assignments for extra credit. Please ensure that your child knows how to tie his or her shoes and has P.E. inside shoes at school. Click here for our class book club page.
