During the course of the year we will cover the Alaska state standards. The students will explore a variety of writing strategies, including structured and creative writing. Strong emphasis will be placed on sentence structure, grammar, and syntax.
Reading will be addressed through a variety of fun and engaging activities including whole class, small group, and individual opportunities.
The students will serve as Reading Buddies with Mrs. Pilon's Kindergarten class on Tuesday afternoons, 3:00 to 3:30 PM.
Current Topics
We are reading and discussing stories about natural disasters in the district’s reading program, into Reading. Due to the short week, there is no spelling quiz this week.
We are reading and discussing The Giver. The students should read regularly and complete AR quizzes.
The students will work in differentiated reading groups, which will begin September 15th. Current Novel The Giver
We will read one novel, as a class, per quarter. The current plan is to read The Giver, The Cay, And Then There Were None, and Bridge to Terabithia or The Great Gilly Hopkins.
